Bronwyn's Story
Born in Sydney in 1970, Bronwyn Porter, who competed internationally as Bronwyn Roye, became one of Australia’s leading scullers through the 1990s and was affiliated with UTS Haberfield Rowing Club. Porter was 26 when she competed at Atlanta 1996 and 30 at Sydney 2000, representing Australia in sculling events across two Olympic campaigns.
Porter’s finest Olympic result came in Atlanta, where she and Marina Hatzakis finished fourth in the women’s double sculls, narrowly missing a medal, while Porter also raced in the women’s quadruple sculls crew that placed ninth. Four years later, Porter and Hatzakis returned in the double sculls at Sydney and finished sixth. Her wider career included world championship representation and a medal at that level, confirming her as one of Australia’s foremost women scullers of her era.
