Cameron's Story

Born in Melbourne in 1971, Cameron McFadzean represented Australia in canoe sprint at two Olympic Games and was affiliated with Gold Coast Canoe Cougars. McFadzean was 25 when he competed at Atlanta 1996 and 29 at the Sydney 2000 Games, building his Olympic career across both single and crew kayak events.

McFadzean’s best Olympic result came in Atlanta, where he finished ninth in the men’s kayak single 500 metres after reaching the final. Four years later, at Sydney, he raced in the men’s kayak four 1000 metres, with the Australian crew progressing to the semi-finals. To compete at two Olympics in different kayak disciplines reflected both versatility and endurance, and it placed McFadzean among Australia’s notable canoe sprint paddlers of his period.
