Carolyn's Story
Born in Melbourne in 1965, Carolyn Schuwalow developed into one of Australia’s leading women distance runners and represented the nation at two Olympic Games. Schuwalow was 23 when she competed at Seoul 1988 and 30 when she returned for Atlanta 1996, building an international career across a period in which women’s distance running was deepening in quality worldwide.
Schuwalow’s finest Olympic result came in Seoul, where she finished 17th in the women’s 10,000 metres after reaching the final. Eight years later, she was entered for the women’s 5000 metres in Atlanta but did not start. Her personal best for 10,000 metres at 31:54.95 in 1991, a sign of the standard she reached during her career. Her place at two Olympic Games secures her standing in Australia’s long-distance running history.
