Charles's Story
Charles James Robert “Charlie” Morris was an Australian hammer thrower who represented Australia at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. Born in London, England, on 7 June 1926, he later emigrated to Australia and became one of the nation’s leading throwers.
At the Melbourne Olympics, Morris competed in the men’s hammer throw, finishing 19th in the qualifying round.
Morris went on to enjoy a successful domestic and Commonwealth Games career, finishing sixth at the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games and fourth in 1962. He won Australian hammer throw titles in 1957 and 1958 and achieved a personal best throw of 59.89 metres in 1962.
