New South Wales sailor Chris Cairns won a bronze medal with crew Scott Anderson in the Tornado class in 1984. Cairns, a skipper, was also a world champion and won several Australian championships in a glittering competitive career. In Los Angeles, Aussie patriotism went to Cairns’ head – he dyed his hair green and gold! It was Australia’s first sailing medal since 1972.
