HAVE A GO AT OLYMPIC SPORTS
Christopher's Story
1972 -
At Sydney 2000, Chris Fydler joined with Ashley Callus, Michael Klim and Ian Thorpe to edge the Americans out of the gold medal on the first night of the swimming competition. Todd Pearson and Adam Pine swam in the heats but were replaced for the final. Also in Sydney, Fydler swam in the 50 metres and finished eighth in the 100 metres. He made his Olympic debut at Barcelona 1992 in the 100 metres and the 4 x 100 metres and medley relays. At Atlanta 1996, he swam in the 50 and 100 metres and the 4 x 100 metres relay. At the 1998 world championships, Fydler was in the second-placed 4 x 100 metres relay team and, with Matt Welsh, Phil Rogers and Klim, won the medley relay gold medal, thereby inflicting the first loss on the United States in this event at the swimming world titles.
