Christopher's Story

Born in 1972, Christopher Unthank built his career in the demanding 3000-metre steeplechase and represented Australia at the Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Unthank was 23 when he first competed at the Olympics and 28 when he returned on home soil in Sydney, placing him among Australia’s leading distance runners of his era.

Unthank’s finest Olympic performance came in Atlanta, where he advanced through the opening round and finished 13th overall in the steeplechase after running 8:25.59 in the semi-final. Four years later, he competed again in Sydney but did not progress beyond the heats, placing 36th overall. His return for a second Games underlined both his endurance and his staying power in one of athletics’ toughest events.
