Claire's Story

1970 -

Claire Mitchell-Taverner won a gold medal for Australia in women’s hockey at Sydney 2000. From Victoria, Mitchell-Taverner enjoyed a fine tournament. Her control, poise and skill on the ball made her one of the team’s stand-out players, especially in the finals round. Mitchell-Taverner was among the best on field in the gold medal final as Australia beat Argentina 3-1 to win its second successive Olympic title. She played more than 180 games for Australia, with other wins including three Champions Trophy titles, the 1998 World Cup and a Commonwealth Games gold medal. Mitchell-Taverner has stayed involved with the sport as an author, public speaker and media personality.
