Colin's Story
Colin James Burdett was an Australian basketball pioneer who represented Australia at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. Born in Adelaide on 4 January 1931, Burdett was a member of Australia's first-ever Olympic men's basketball team.
Originally a talented cricketer and baseball player, Burdett turned to basketball as a teenager and quickly rose through the ranks. He helped South Australia win a national title in 1953 and earned Olympic selection through his outstanding performances at national championships.
At Melbourne 1956, Burdett represented Australia as the Boomers finished 12th in the Olympic tournament. He is remembered as one of the sport's early trailblazers and a key figure in the growth of Australian basketball.
