Colin's Story
Colin Stirling Ryrie was an Australian sailor who represented Australia at both the 1956 Melbourne and 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. Born in Woollahra, New South Wales, on 23 December 1929, he became one of Australia's most accomplished Finn-class yachtsmen.
At Melbourne 1956, Ryrie competed in the Finn class and finished 10th. He later returned for the Tokyo Olympics in 1964, where he achieved an even stronger result, finishing sixth.
Away from Olympic competition, Ryrie was an eight-time New South Wales Finn champion, a national champion, and later Commodore of the Royal Prince Edward Yacht Club. He also played a significant role in Australian sailing history through involvement with the first America's Cup challenge yacht, Gretel.
