Sprint specialist Dan Ellis started competitive cycling at 10 years of age. Ellis competed at the 2005 Australian Youth Olympic Festival and won two gold and two silver medals. In 2007 Ellis won his first World Cup event as part of the team sprint in Sydney. Ellis was selected in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Team and placed fourth in the team sprint final.
