Daniel's Story
Born in Werribee, Victoria, in 1973, Daniel Tiatto represented Australia in football at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games. Tiatto, known widely in the game as Danny Tiatto, was 23 when he joined the Australian men’s squad for the Olympic tournament, bringing the form that had taken him through Melbourne Knights and into the national set-up.
Australia finished 13th in Atlanta after a group campaign that included a 2-1 win over Saudi Arabia but losses to France and Spain. For Tiatto, selection in that Olyroos squad placed him among the footballers entrusted with carrying Australia onto one of sport’s biggest stages, and it secured his place in the nation’s Olympic football history.
