David's Story
David Bell represented Australia at two Olympics, winning a silver medal in 1976 and finishing fourth in 1984. Australia did not compete in hockey at Moscow in 1980 because of the political boycott. Bell was a stand-out player for Australia for more than a decade, playing in four Hockey World Cups and nine Champions Trophy events. In 1986 he was captain of the first Australian men’s team to win the Hockey World Cup. He also coached the Australian women’s hockey team, the Hockeyroos, at the Athens 2004 Olympics. Bell is an inductee in the Sport Australia Hall of Fame.
David was selected onto the Moscow 1980 Australian Olympic Team but was not able to compete after his sport federation decided to abide by the Government's boycott, and chose not send athletes.
