David's Story

Born in Sydney in 1970, David Cooper represented Australia in equestrian jumping at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games. Cooper was 25 when he competed on Red Sails in a discipline where judgement, balance and trust between horse and rider are everything. His selection placed him in the Australian jumping team at a time when the nation was striving to lift its standing in one of Olympic equestrian’s toughest events.

At Atlanta, Cooper finished 71st in the individual jumping competition and 18th with Australia in the team event. While his Olympic career was limited to one Games, selection in both the individual and team competitions marked him as one of the country’s leading showjumpers of his period. His appearance in Atlanta secured his place in Australia’s Olympic equestrian history.
