David's Story
Born in Melbourne in 1962, David Cunningham built a long career in clay target shooting and was affiliated with Frankston Australian Clay Target Club. Cunningham was 34 when he made his Olympic debut at Atlanta 1996 and 38 when he returned for the Sydney 2000 Games, reflecting his standing among Australia’s leading skeet shooters across that period.
Cunningham’s best Olympic result came in Atlanta, where he finished equal 20th in the men’s skeet. Four years later, on home soil in Sydney, he placed equal 39th. His wider career included Commonwealth Games medals, with Olympedia listing bronze in Kuala Lumpur in 1998 and silver in Manchester in 2002, achievements that underlined his quality beyond the Olympic arena.
