David's Story
1971 -
Sydney’s David Weightman won a silver medal with Robert Scott in the men’s coxless pair in Atlanta. The pair had teamed up a year earlier while training together at the Australian Institute of Sport. They arrived at the Games in fine form, proving their fitness by comfortably winning their heat and semi-final. Waiting in the final was legendary British crew Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent. Weightman and Scott took the race up to the British defending champions, but could not quite get on top of their rivals. Weightman and Scott later attempted to represent Australia in the same event at Sydney 2000, but were unlucky to lose out in a tough qualification battle.
