David's Story
Born in Brisbane in 1973, David Wilkinson represented Australia in judo at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games. Wilkinson was affiliated with Ipswich Police Citizens Youth Club and was 22 when he competed in the men’s middleweight division, reaching the Olympic stage in a sport where progress is often decided by the smallest of margins.
Wilkinson finished equal 17th in Atlanta. While his Olympic campaign was limited to one Games, selection for Australia at that level marked him as one of the nation’s leading judoka of the period. His appearance in Atlanta secured his place in Australia’s Olympic judo history.
