Deborah's Story

Deborah Beresford (née Debbie Wells, born 29 May 1961) is a former Australian sprinter who represented Australia at three Olympic Games: Montreal in 1976, Moscow in 1980, and Los Angeles in 1984. Competing primarily in the 100 metres, 200 metres, and 4 × 100 metre relay, she was one of Australia's leading female sprinters during the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Nicknamed the “Emmaville Express”, Beresford grew up in Emmaville, New South Wales, and competed at her first Olympics at just 15 years of age. She won multiple Australian national titles in the 100 metres and 200 metres and represented Australia in major international competitions, including the Pacific Conference Games and World Cup events, establishing herself as one of the country's most accomplished sprinters of her era.
