Don's Story

Donald Cecil “Don” Tolhurst was an Australian sport shooter who represented Australia at four consecutive Olympic Games, beginning with the 1956 Melbourne Olympics. Born in Sydney on 24 June 1929, he specialised in small-bore rifle events and became one of Australia's most enduring shooting representatives.

At Melbourne 1956, Tolhurst competed in the 50-metre prone rifle event, finishing 10th, and also contested the 50-metre three-positions competition, placing 27th.

He went on to represent Australia at Rome 1960, Tokyo 1964 and Mexico City 1968, with another top-10 Olympic finish in Tokyo. His four Olympic appearances place him among Australia's notable Olympic shooting veterans.
