Duane's Story
Born in 1973, Duane Cousins represented Australia in race walking at the Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Cousins was 23 at his Olympic debut and 27 when he returned on home soil in Sydney, building his career in the demanding 50-kilometre event.
Cousins did not finish the 50-kilometre walk in Atlanta, but returned four years later to place 34th in Sydney. Beyond the Olympics, his finest international result was a silver medal in the 50-kilometre walk at the 1998 Commonwealth Games, an achievement that underlined his quality in one of athletics’ toughest disciplines. World Athletics also credits him with national-title success and a long competitive life in the event.
