Edward's Story
Edward James “Ted” Allsopp was an Australian race walker who represented Australia at the 1956 Melbourne and 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. Born in Edenhope, Victoria, on 15 August 1926, he enjoyed one of the longest and most successful race-walking careers in Australian history.
At the Melbourne Olympics, Allsopp finished 10th in the 20-kilometre race walk and also competed in the 50-kilometre event.
Over a career spanning more than a quarter of a century, he won 11 Australian titles, numerous Victorian championships and set multiple national records. After retiring from competition, he pursued a successful second career as an artist.
