Edward's Story

Edward “Ted” Smith was an Australian footballer who represented Australia at the 1956 Melbourne Olympic Games. Raised in Melbourne, Smith developed through Victorian football and established himself as a talented winger. 

At just 21 years of age, he was selected in Australia's Olympic football squad and played in both of Australia's matches at Melbourne 1956. The team defeated Japan before being eliminated by India in the quarter-finals. 

Following his playing career, Smith remained deeply involved in Australian football through administration, historical projects and national team support. In 2022 he was inducted into the Football Australia Hall of Fame in recognition of his contribution to the game.
