Ellinora's Story

Born in Vancouver, Canada, in 1974, Ellinora Overton grew into one of Australia’s finest medley swimmers of the 1990s and was affiliated with Galston Swim Club before attending the University of California, Berkeley. Overton, widely known as Elli Overton, was just 18 when she made her Olympic debut at Barcelona 1992, then returned for Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000.

Overton’s best Olympic result came in the 200-metre individual medley, where she finished fifth in both Barcelona and Atlanta. She also placed 14th in the 100-metre backstroke and 400-metre individual medley in Atlanta, and reached the semi-finals of the 200-metre individual medley in Sydney to finish 11th overall. Her wider career included Commonwealth Games gold in the 200-metre and 400-metre medley in 1994, as well as world and Pan Pacific medals, confirming her as one of Australia’s most accomplished medley swimmers of her era.
