About Emily

Emily Gielnik had an Australian U19s debut for the ages, scoring a hat-trick on debut in October 2011.

Less than 12 months later she received her first selection to the Matildas, appearing in a 3-0 defeat against Japan in July 2012 friendly.

Emily was named in the Matildas Olympic qualifying squad for Rio 2016 and scored a goal against Vietnam, however wasn’t named in the final team for the Olympics.

She appeared in all three matches for Australia at the 2018 Asian Cup. The Matildas finished the tournament runners up to Japan after a tight 1-0 contest in the final.

The following year saw Emily’s international form rewarded with selection to the 2019 World Cup squad. In France, she appeared in three matches for Australia, with two of them as a starter.

At Tokyo 2020 Emily and the Matildas made all of Australia proud in putting together a historic achievement.

Their fourth place finish, which was nearly a podium finish after a 4-3 loss to the USA in the bronze medal game, is the highest ever finish by the Matildas at an Olympic Games.

With a W-League Premiership and Championship to her name, she has also amassed more than 50 caps for the Matildas and plays for Aston Villa.
