Erika's Story

Born in Mexico City, Erika Leal-Ramirez and her sister began synchronised swimming from a young age and went on to represent Mexico at the Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000 Olympics. Leal-Ramirez placed eighth in the team event in 1996 and ninth in the duet in 2000. After moving to Australia to take up a scholarship at Melbourne Institute of Technology to do her Masters, Erika Leal-Ramirez became an Australian citizen in April 2007 and competed for Australia in the duet (21st) and team (seventh) events at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
