Gareth's Story
Originally from Singleton in NSW, Gareth Nichols took up Bobsleigh in 2011 after he was talent scouted for his achievements in beach sprinting. A member of the Surf Life Saving Community at Mullaloo Beach, he came ninth at the 2011 Surf Lifesaving World Championship beach sprints in Egypt.
He became a regular competitor in the men's 4-Man crew during the 2013/14 season with his best result being a podium finish at the Lake Placid North America'c Cup. The 4-Man team finished second and fourth in the races held during this event. The crew also picked up a bronze medal at the North America's Cup in Lake Placid in December, 2013.
Making his Olympic debut in Sochi as a brakeman for Heath Spence, Nichols finished 22nd in the men's 4-Man Bobsleigh alongside Spence, Duncan Harvey and Lucas Mata.
