Gary's Story
Rower Gary Gullock crewed with Tony Lovrich, Tim McLaren and Paul Reedy in the men’s quadruple sculls in 1984, winning a silver medal. Australia bravely led for much of the race and was only caught right on the finish line by West Germany. Officials had to review a photo of the finish to decide the winner. Gullock became the first athlete from Ballarat to win an Olympic medal. He maintained a long relationship with rowing and later took up cycling, enjoying success at the national level as a veteran as well as contributing as an official.
