Gary's Story
Born in 1970, Gary Lynagh rowed for Australia at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games in the men’s lightweight four. Lynagh was 26 when he took his place in one of rowing’s most exacting crew events, where timing, endurance and technical precision are all essential.
Lynagh and the Australian lightweight four progressed through the repechage and semi-final to reach the Olympic A final, where they finished sixth. A place in an Olympic final remains a significant result in international rowing, and Lynagh’s performance in Atlanta gave him a respected place in Australia’s Olympic rowing history.
