Graham’s Story
Goalkeeper Graham Reid represented Australia in men’s hockey at two Olympic Games. He made his Olympic debut at Munich 1972, where Australia finished fifth after narrowly missing the medal round. Reid returned four years later for Montreal 1976 and helped Australia win the silver medal.
Australia’s Montreal campaign included victories over India and Pakistan, the latter coming in a 2-1 semi-final. In the gold medal match, Australia faced New Zealand but was beaten 1-0 after conceding from a second-half penalty corner. The silver was one of only five medals won by Australia at the Games.
Reid was selected for the Moscow 1980 Australian Olympic Team but did not compete after Australian hockey withdrew its teams amid the Olympic boycott. An Australian Capital Territory representative at club level, he was later inducted into the territory’s Sporting Hall of Fame.
