Greg's Story
Queenslander Greg Browning was a dual Olympian for Australia in men’s hockey, finishing fifth in 1972 and winning a silver medal in 1976. Browning was only 16 years old when first selected for Australia, becoming the youngest player ever chosen to the national team. Browning has since enjoyed a successful coaching career in his home state. Eight of the players on Australia’s gold-medal winning men’s team in 2004 were coached by Browning in Queensland.
Greg was selected onto the Moscow 1980 Australian Olympic Team but was not able to compete after his sport federation decided to abide by the Government's boycott, and chose not send athletes.
