Haimish's Story
Born in 1976, Haimish Karrasch built his Olympic rowing career across two Games in Australia’s lightweight program. Karrasch was 20 when he competed at Atlanta 1996 and 24 when he returned for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, showing the staying power needed to remain competitive in one of rowing’s most exacting divisions.
Karrasch first competed in the men’s lightweight four at Atlanta, where Australia reached the A final and finished sixth. Four years later, he raced in the men’s lightweight double sculls at Sydney and placed seventh overall after winning the B final. His wider career also included world championship success, with the Australian Olympic Committee noting a silver medal in the lightweight double sculls in 1999. Those results gave Karrasch a respected place in Australia’s rowing history.
