Hayden's Story
Born in 1977, Hayden Foxe represented Australia in football at two Olympic Games, competing at Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000. Foxe was 19 at his Olympic debut and 23 when he returned on home soil in Sydney, making him part of an Olyroos generation that carried Australian men’s football onto the Olympic stage in successive tournaments.
Australia finished 13th in Atlanta after defeating Saudi Arabia and losing to France and Spain in group play. Four years later, the Australians placed 15th in Sydney after narrow defeats to Italy, Nigeria and Honduras. Foxe’s repeated selection reflected his standing in Australian football at the time, and his two Olympic campaigns secured his place in the national game’s Olympic history.
