Heidi's Story
Born in 1961, Heidi Burnett represented Australia in judo at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games. Burnett was 34 when she reached the Olympic stage in the women’s over-72 kilogram division, a class that demanded strength, balance and composure in equal measure.
At Atlanta, Burnett won her opening contest before losing in the next round and finishing 14th overall. While her Olympic campaign was limited to one Games, selection for Australia at that level marked her as one of the nation’s leading judoka of the period. Her appearance in Atlanta secured her place in Australia’s Olympic judo history.
