Hussein's Story

Born in 1975, Hussein Hussein represented Australia in boxing at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games. Hussein was 20 when he competed in the men’s 51-kilogram division, reaching the Olympic ring at an age when many boxers are only beginning to find their way at senior international level. (Australian Olympic Committee) (Salesforce Data) Hussein won his opening bout in Atlanta before being beaten in the next round, finishing ninth overall. That result placed him just outside the medal rounds in one of boxing’s most competitive weight classes. His Olympic appearance remains a significant achievement and gave him a respected place in Australia’s boxing history.
