Ian's Story
At Montreal 1976, two of Australia's five medals (one silver and four bronzes) were won by the sailors. John Bertrand won a bronze in the Finns and Ian Brown and Ian Ruff won a similar medal in the 470 class. Brown was to compete as a sailor at Moscow 1980 but the Australian yachting authorities honoured the US-led boycott and withdrew its contingent from the Australian team. He was a reserve sailor for Los Angeles 1984 and a coach at Seoul 1988.
Ian was selected onto the Moscow 1980 Australian Olympic Team but was not able to compete after his sport federation decided to abide by the Government's boycott, and chose not send athletes.
