Jack's Story
Queensland swimmer Jack Cartwright is proud of his origins at the Biloela Bluefins, although his first memory of his time at the country swim club is a little painful.
“I still remember my first club night,” he said. “I dove off the blocks and sunk right to the bottom of the pool and mum had to rescue me.”
However, a few years after that dunking, Jack emerged as one Australia’s rising talents after picking up six medals at the Junior Pan Pacific Championships in 2016, including four golds. At 18, he qualified for his first senior international meet at the 2017 World Championships.
Jack missed a chance at the Tokyo Olympic Team after having shoulder surgery.
Then at the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka, Japan, Jack took on multiple relay duties and came away with gold medals in the men’s 4x100m freestyle relay and the mixed 4x100m freestyle relay.
At the 2024 World Championships in Doha, he was part of the Australian team that won silver in the mixed 4x100m relay.
After finishing fourth in the 100m freestyle at the Australian Swimming Trials in Brisbane in June, a month before the Paris Olympics, Jack was set for an Olympic debut as a relay swimmer.
Competing in a 4x100m freestyle relay heat, in which they came first, and the final - Jack alongside Kyle Chalmers, Flynn Southam and Kai Taylor swam to an Olympic silver medal.
