James's Story

1948 -

James ‘Jim’ Irvine was a dual Olympian, representing Australia in men’s hockey in 1976 and 1984. The highlight of his career came in 1976 when he was part of the Australian team that won the silver medal. Australia did not compete in hockey at Moscow in 1980 because of the political boycott. Irvine returned to the Games in 1984, where the team finished fourth. He has since enjoyed an international coaching career, which included a role as assistant coach of the Kookaburras, the Australia men’s hockey team, at Sydney 2000.
