HAVE A GO AT OLYMPIC SPORTS
Jeff's Story
1972 -
Jeff Williams won a silver medal for Australia in baseball in 2004. Williams was one of seven dual Olympians on the Athens roster, but the only one to have played previously at the Games in 1996, not 2000. Athens was the third consecutive appearance at the Games for Australia’s baseballers, with the team having placed seventh in both Atlanta and Sydney. A left-handed closer, Williams’ two saves in Athens tied him for the best performance by a closer in the tournament. One of his saves was in the semi-final, in which he kept Japan’s all-professional hitting line-up scoreless as Australia won 1-0. Australia lost the final to Cuba 6-2. Born in Canberra, Williams has played in the Major Leagues in the United States and Japan.
