Jennifer's Story

Jenni Screen won a silver medal as a member of the Australian women’s basketball team in 2008. Beijing was the first Olympics for the tall, athletic guard, and followed her success with the national team at the 2006 World Championships and 2006 Commonwealth Games.

Heading to her second Games in London, Screen was an integral member of an Australian team hoping to go one better than Beijing. But the Australian’s hopes for topping their pool were dashed when they fell to the French in an epic overtime encounter (74-70). Screen and the Opals finished second in their pool. They regrouped and overcame China in the quarter-final (75-60) before meeting their US foes in a showdown they had hoped would have been the gold medal match.

The Australians performed valiantly but were defeated by the world number one USA 86-73. The USA went on to win gold over France while the Australians beat Russia to take bronze 83-74, extending their strong Olympic record.

As well as national duties, Screen has enjoyed a fine professional career in Australia and Europe. Screen is married to fellow basketballer Neil Mottram, brother of middle-distance runner Craig Mottram.
