Jim's Story

Born in 1971, Jim Walker represented Australia in canoe sprint at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games. Walker was 24 when he competed in the men’s kayak four 1000 metres, one of the sport’s most demanding crew events, where rhythm and speed must be perfectly matched.

Walker and the Australian crew reached the Olympic final and finished ninth. A top-10 finish at Olympic level remains a significant result in canoe sprint, and Walker’s campaign in Atlanta gave him a respected place in Australia’s paddling history.
