John's Story

Born in Kyogle, New South Wales, in 1960, John Felton represented Australia in canoe slalom at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games. Felton was 35 when he reached the Olympic stage in the men’s canoe doubles event, a discipline that demanded precision, nerve and close understanding between paddling partners.

Felton competed alongside Andrew Wilson in the men’s canoe doubles slalom and the Australian pair finished 14th. While his Olympic appearance was limited to one Games, selection in such a technical event marked Felton as one of Australia’s notable canoe slalom athletes of that period. His performance in Atlanta secured his place in Australia’s Olympic paddling history.
