John's Story
John Cuneo, John Shaw and Tom Anderson won the gold medal in the Dragon class sailing at Munich 1972. On the same day, David Forbes and Tom Anderson’s twin, John, won another gold medal in the Stars. Twins winning gold medals on the same day in different events is a unique occurrence at the Olympic Games.
Shaw had a long and varied career in Australian and international sailing world, including the America’s Cup. In 1999 he was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame on the same day as the Anderson twins.
