Julian's Story
1937 –
The men’s hockey team won its first Olympic medal, a bronze behind India and Pakistan, at Tokyo 1964. At Mexico City 1968, the team finished second to Pakistan after defeating India in the semi-final. Julian Pearce was a member of the teams to Rome 1960, Tokyo and Mexico City. He was the youngest of five brothers from Western Australia to play international hockey for Australia.
His most famous brother, Eric, joined him in all his Olympic appearances and the pair was joined by Gordon at Rome and Mexico City. In 1999, he was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame and, with Eric, was one of the inaugural inductees into the Hockey Australia Hall of Fame.
