Justin's Story

Justin Lemberg won a bronze medal in the men’s 400m freestyle in 1984, Australia’s first medal in one of our most popular events since Brad Cooper’s gold in 1972. Lemberg, 17, was coached in Queensland by Laurie Lawrence. In the final he set a new PB by more than two seconds, recording a time of 3 mins 51.79 secs. Lemberg was a busy man in Los Angeles, competing in four events: the 400m freestyle, 1500m freestyle, 200m freestyle and 4x200m freestyle relay.
