Karen's Story
1962 -
Karen Marsden won a gold medal as a member of the Australian women’s hockey team in 1996. Marsden, from Western Australia, shared the goalkeeping duties with Clover Maitland. The defence was outstanding in Atlanta, with opponents failing to score against the Hockeyroos in five of their eight matches as the team remained undefeated throughout the tournament. They recorded seven wins and a draw, a 3-3 tie with South Korea in the preliminary round, from eight matches. The gold medal final was a re-match with the Koreans, with the Aussies dominating their arch-rivals to win 3-1.
