Karina's Story
Karina Newmarch (née Wieland) is an Australian rower who represented Australia at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games in the women's eight event. Born in Geelong, Victoria, on 2 September 1974, she developed her rowing talent while attending Geelong College before progressing through the Australian Institute of Sport pathway to national representation.
Newmarch earned selection in Australia's women's eight crew for Atlanta 1996, where the team produced a strong performance to finish fifth in the Olympic final. Prior to the Olympics, she competed internationally at World Rowing Championships and established herself as one of Australia's leading female rowers.
Following her competitive career, Newmarch remained active in sport and leadership roles, building a successful career in business and community sport administration while continuing to inspire future generations of athletes.
