Keith's Story
Keith Kirkland was the youngster of the Australian swimming team at Antwerp 1920. He swam in the heat of the 4 x 200 metres freestyle relay but was replaced by Frank Beaurepaire for the final. Beaurepaire joined Ivan Stedman, Harry Hay and Bill Herald to claim the silver medal behind the ever-powerful Americans.
Kirkland completed his university studies after Antwerp, becoming a medical doctor, and over the succeeding years often provided medical services to members of Australian Olympic teams. He eventually became one of Australia’s eminent urologists.
