Kelvin's Story

Kelvin Poole was a Victorian track cyclist who specialised in the individual and team pursuit events. Born in 1958, he represented Australia at the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton before making his Olympic debut at Moscow 1980, aged 22.

Poole contested the 4,000 metres individual pursuit in Moscow, recording the ninth-fastest performance during qualifying. Only the leading eight riders advanced to the quarterfinals, leaving him narrowly outside the next stage.

He also rode in Australia’s 4,000 metres team pursuit combination. The Australians progressed from qualifying to the quarterfinals, where their campaign ended with sixth place overall, completing Poole’s two-event Olympic appearance.
