Kenrick's Story

Kenrick Tucker was born in Rockhampton, Queensland, and began competitive cycling at 12 under the guidance of his father, noted coach Ken “Reggie” Tucker. Known as the “Rockhampton Rocket”, he won the Australian junior sprint title in 1977.

Tucker won sprint gold and the 1,000 metres time trial silver at the Edmonton 1978 Commonwealth Games. At 21, he made his Olympic debut at Moscow 1980, placing seventh in the sprint and 10th in the 1,000 metres time trial.

He successfully defended his Commonwealth sprint title before a home crowd at Brisbane 1982. Tucker returned to Olympic competition at Los Angeles 1984, again reaching the sprint quarterfinals and finishing seventh overall, matching his result from Moscow.
