Lachlan Anderson started playing rugby at just 4-years-old, after his dad entered him into the sport. In 2017, in front of his friends and family Lachlan made his Australian rugby sevens debut in his hometown of Sydney, a moment he considers a career highlight.
A year later, Lachlan was selected to be on the 2018 Commonwealth Games squad. At his debut Commonwealth Games, the Australian side finished in fifth place.
During the 2020 World Rugby Sevens Series, Lachlan scored a try in the final against New Zealand in Vancouver, with the Australian side ultimately claiming the silver medal.
Unfortunately due to the Covid pandemic, the 2020 World Sevens Series was abandoned and so Lachlan signed with rugby union team the Melbourne Rebels. Lachlan started in every match of the season and has recently signed a contract extension until the end of 2023.
Following the completion of his season with the Melbourne Rebels, Lachlan came back into the Sevens fold for the six-match series against New Zealand in May 2021 and then the Oceania Sevens in June 2021.
Lachlan made his Olympic debut at the Tokyo Games, representing Australia in the Men's Rugby Sevens squad. After the victory over South Korea, Australia would make it out of the group stage of the tournament setting up a quarter-final tie against Fiji. The Aussies would fall short, however, losing 19-0 and no longer qualifying for medal contention. In their final game of the tournament, Anderson would score his first Olympic try defeating Canada 26-7 and earning a 7th overall placed finish.
